A schedule of works to be staggered throughout the year has started with the removal this week of the tree on the Rostrevor street roundabout. The Pin Oak had been identified in the resource consent as a tree requiring removal for the circuit.

The Rostrevor/Tristram street intersection will remain a roundabout with the installation of a removable roundabout. Traffic analysis of the intersection showed that a roundabout remains the best traffic management system under the current traffic conditions for the area to maximise traffic flow and safety.

The new roundabout will be constructed of recycled rubber that locks together in sections. The innovative construction means that the roundabout can be installed and deconstructed in less than 2 hours.

Resealing works required to reinstate the roundabout will take place over April/May.

March will also see the removal of the house at 29 Seddon Road. The house is to be relocated in order to commence work to construct the pit lane area.

Other works occurring over the next few months include:

* Mill Street median
o Removal of existing median and reinstatement with asphalt surface
* Norton Road roundabout
o Relocation of gas and electricity services and alterations to alignment including lighting column relocation and re-seal
* High Street Chicane
o Instillation of chicane and work to existing services to facilitate road alignment
* Hall Street/Lake Rd Signals
o Removal and upgrade of existing intersection

A comprehensive traffic management plan is currently being devised and will be put in operation over the following months to minimise traffic disruption during works to the roads affected by the circuit development.
