Event set to promote club development
Nominations for Sports Clubs of the Year 2008 are still open and Sport Manawatu is urging any club thinking about nominating themselves to get their nomination in soon. Nominations close at 5pm Friday May 23, and the campaign will culminate with a function on Friday June 30 2008.
The awards are open to all sports clubs, regardless of their size, who have achieved in the following categories; financial management, operational development, player development, volunteer development, event management, marketing management and facility development.
The awards provide an opportunity for sports clubs throughout the region to be recognised for their achievements, and share their successes with the community.
Aside from formally recognising club’s achievements, the awards provide an opportunity for clubs to network with other volunteers and administrators throughout the region.
“It is a great opportunity to share success stories and the achievements of clubs within the Manawatu, Tararua and Horowhenua regions. This is of great value to club development and helps ensure continued success for the sports clubs in our region who provide sports opportunities for many members of the community,” says Sport Manawatu’s club development coordinator, Tamara Scott.
Sport Manawatu will put together a booklet of ‘success stories’ at the conclusion of the campaign to encourage other clubs to pick up on some of the successful strategies involved. With the permission of the contributing clubs this will be a valuable resource to assist club development in the region.
Nomination forms are available from the Sport Manawatu office on Queen Street in Palmerston North, and online at www.sportmanawatu.org.nz or by calling Sport Manawatu on 06 357 5349.
