The Taupo Youth Council is holding a free concert ‘DO IT TO IT’ for local youth on Friday 30 May, to celebrate national Youth Week.

Youth Week 08 is being held from 26 May – 1 June and this year the focus is on supportive relationships with young people. Each year, events are organised by young people and the youth sector all over New Zealand that encourage young people to get involved, have a say, influence opinions, showcase their creativity and talent, share ideas, access information and have fun.

The Taupo Youth Council, in conjunction with the Youth Café for Health ‘Extreme’ team is organising the concert ‘DO IT TO IT’ and has managed to secure national band SPACIFIX for the night. Popular local band Mingoss and local school bands will be in support.

The concert will be held at the Taupo Events Centre (AC Baths) and kicks off at 5pm on the Friday (30 May). It is a smoke-free event with non alcoholic drinks and food available.

Parents can be assured that this will be a secure environment for youth. The concert is restricted to 12 - 18 year olds, security will be on hand and the doors will be closed between 7 and 10pm.

Councillor Representative on the Youth Council, Bernhard Chrustowski said the objective of the concert is to provide a safe and fun get together for youth.

“It is an opportunity for our youngsters to interact with their peers in a safe and fun environment – and I must say what a great job the Youth Council has done with securing some great music for the night.”

Fellow Council Representative Mike Downard acknowledged Jenny Steadman, Council’s Community Support Project Officer who has assisted the youth with getting this project off the ground, as well as those organisations that have contributed and supported the event. These include the Taupo District Council Community Support Team, MoreFM, Youthtown, AgentC with SPL Central, Café 4 Youth Health, Senjo Security and the team at Taupo Venues.

“I’m sure the young ones that attend will have a great time,” said Councillor Downard.
