ACT Leader Rodney Hide today said that Finance Minister Dr Michael Cullen's tax cuts were baby steps in the right direction - but are too little too late.

"They do not compensate for the high taxes Labour has imposed, or the high interest rates it has inflicted on New Zealanders," Mr Hide said.

"The trouble with Dr Cullen's Budgets is that they are all about carving up the economy cake rather than baking a bigger one.

"Further, it is disappointing that the National Party has offered no alternative vision or plan.

"ACT is pleased to have a goal to beat Australia by 2020, and a detailed plan to boost wages by $500 a week by baking a bigger economy cake.
"ACT is now the only political Party offering an alternative policy direction to Labour," Mr Hide said.
