Public consultation on roading levels of service for the Waitaki District begins today.

Council encourages the public to have their say on proposed roading service standards, which have been reviewed in response to the projected needs of the District’s land transport system over the next ten years. The changes proposed will have an impact on future rate requirements.

During the consultation period, from 29 May – 30 June, public meetings will be held to discuss the future direction of roading standards. These meetings are to be held at:

* Papakaio Community Centre – Thursday 12th June, 7pm;
* Otematata Lakes Centre – Tuesday 17th June, 7pm; and
* Oamaru, Kingsgate Brydone Hotel, Tuesday 24th June, 7pm.

In addition the public are invited to attend a presentation on roading levels of service, which will be given at:

* the Kurow Memorial Hall (at the Ahuriri Community Board meeting), Tuesday 3rd June, 3pm and
* the Palmerston Service Centre (at the Waihemo Community Board meeting), Monday 9th June, 7pm.

Council has prepared a Statement of Proposal on roading and a summary of key actions proposed, which will be published in the ‘Waitaki Link’ in the Waitaki Herald on June 4.

All consultation documents are now available from Council: and can be accessed on the website www.waitaki.govt.nz; by emailing: csunit@waitaki.govt.nz; or by phoning (03) 433 0300.

Submissions will close on Monday 30 June at 5pm and submission hearings will be held on 8th July. The consultation is being undertaken to help Council to prepare information for its 2009 – 2019 Waitaki Community Plan.
