Taupo District Council is in the process of reviewing the three liquor bylaws that are in place and want to capture public feedback.

The three bylaws cover the following:

* Liquor control in the Taupo CBD year round
* Liquor control in public places (Taupo and Turangi) during the New Year period
* Liquor control in the Mangakino Town Centre and public areas, during weekends, year round.

Council has a legislative responsibility to review these bylaws and has consulted with the local police to ensure they are still appropriate.

According to the Taupo Police, since the liquor bans have been in place there have been a lot less alcohol-related incidents. This indicates that the bylaws are achieving their objective.

This is an opportunity for members of the community to have their say on the liquor bylaws.

Further information and submission forms are available from Council offices in Taupo, Turangi and Mangakino and from the website www.taupo.govt.nz. The closing date for submissions is Wednesday 16 July at 4.00pm.
