Jazz Apple Cycling Team returns to North America for heart-racing tour
As the New Zealand apple season gets underway in North America, the ENZA Jazz™ Apple Cycling Team mounts its second annual racing campaign throughout the United States and Canada – this time with a special mission.
The team, involving a combination of BikeNZ's elite and developing female riders, will undertake a two-month road racing campaign throughout the US and Canada beginning in early June.
In addition to racing and training, the team will spread awareness about the positive connection between eating Jazzâ„¢ apples and having a healthy heart, according to Susy Pryde, co-director and athlete.
The Jazz™ Apple Cycling Team includes New Zealand national time trial and road race champion Alison Shanks, as well as New Zealand’s top ranked road cyclist, Jo Kiesanowski and sister Michelle Kiesanowski. Other seasoned racers include Commonwealth Games silver medalist Rosara Joseph.
Pryde, who is a two-time Commonwealth Games medalist and two-time Olympian, will race while also co-directing the team.
Rushlee Buchannan, Lauren Webb, Malindi McLean and Sarah Murdoch round out the Jazz™ Apple squad. Buchanan is the standout amongst the group, who as a nineteen-year-old carries the smarts and skills of a rider beyond her years, Pryde said. Her resume already includes a Track World Championship silver medal, an ambitious race schedule involving seven high profile events in the US, four in Canada, and an invitation to New Zealand’s European training centre in France in August.
In addition to racing and training, the team members will make public appearances to promote the benefits of enjoying Jazzâ„¢ apples daily as part of a healthy diet.
