Nominations Open for the 2008 Waitaki Citizens' Awards

The 2008 Waitaki District Council Citizens Awards are now open for nominations.

This will be the 12th year that the awards are to be presented to members of our community who have made a significant contribution to the well-being of the Waitaki District and its citizens.

There are a great many people who provide long and unselfish service to many areas of the community, and yet these people are often unknown outside of the areas to which they have given such unstinting service.

This is a way for the Waitaki District Council to say “thank you” on behalf of everyone in our community. One of the community outcomes Waitaki residents have identified as being important is that "We have strong, well supported community groups and recognise and value our volunteers." The awards support this outcome.

A District Council Selection Committee to consider the nominations will comprise of the Mayor, four Councillors, the Chairman of the Waihemo Community Board and the Chairman of the Ahuriri Community Board, with the presentation of the awards being made at a special ceremony in November.
