New Zealand Cricket has completed an organisational review to ensure it is better positioned to grow the game and succeed across all levels, NZC CEO Justin Vaughan announced today.

“Cricket around the world and in New Zealand is growing rapidly. The review has resulted in a new organisational structure which focuses on better integrating our high performance areas, growing participation and increasing our revenue This new shape should allow NZC to take full advantage of the growth in interest for the game and create a robust and healthy outlook for the sport in this country,” he said.

“The new structure, along with a renewed focus on measurable targets, clear accountabilities and rewarding performance will help us have increased success both on and off the field and to become a truly world-class sports organisation.”

A number of additonal positions have been created in the new structure. One of the most notable is the position of General Manager Cricket, who will oversee all areas of NZC’s high performance programmes, including the BLACKCAPS. Under the previous structure the BLACKCAPS were a stand alone unit.

“The review has resulted in a much closer connection between the BLACKCAPS and the remainder of NZC’s elite teams as well as our elite coaching and player development programmes,” Vaughan said.

The roles of High Performance Manager and BLACKCAPS General Manager have been disestablished with these areas combining under the area managed by the General Manager Cricket.

“There is an overall gain in the number of positions at NZC. People who have had their positions disestablished have been encouraged to apply for new roles within the organisation and a number will be very strong candidates for newly created positions,” he said.

“We have created a new shape to the Commercial team, with a focus on growing revenue. Sustainable revenue growth is the lifeblood of the sport and allows us to invest more into the game at all levels.”

“We have also expanded the size and capability of our Development team to ensure that we continue to grow and sustain the grassroots levels of the game. Overall participation in cricket reached a new high of over 100,000 players last season, which was a great result. The new structure should allow us to grow this even further.

“This is an exciting time for cricket in New Zealand and the results of this review build a platform for growing our game and increasing our performance into the future.”
