The Camberley community will receive its long awaited community centre when a Baptist hall from Havelock North is moved across the city to Kirkpatrick Park in Camberley.

The old Baptist hall which was situated on Te Aute Road in Havelock Road is being moved in three sections in the next few weeks starting today.

Emma Walsh, Community Development Manager at the Hastings District Council, said the Camberley community had expressed their wish for a community hub in their 2003 community plan.

“This is a great thing for the community. It’s been a long time coming and it’s a real testament to the community that they’ve got the funds together and made it happen,” said Ms Walsh.

The Hastings District Council will help run the centre for the first year of operation with a view to handing it over to the community once the facility is established.
