Waitakere United has loaned young Fijian international striker Roy Krishna back to his home town club of Labasa for the remainder of the New Zealand winter.

Waitakere United Executive Chairman Rex Dawkins is thrilled with the progress of Krishna and is looking forward to the commencement of the new NZFC season when he will play a full part in the campaign to defend both NZFC and O-League titles but for now the time is right to put something back into the game in Fiji.

“Roy is a prodigious young talent and has settled in well. But with Waitakere City out of the Chatham Cup and playing a reasonably low key league the best thing for Roy right now is some time out with family and friends back in Fiji where he can put something back into the game there.

“He is revered already in Fijian football and will cause quite a stir on return to Labasa. While we are usually focused on beating the best in Oceania in the O-League, we are also conscious of the need to help promote the game in the island nations when we can, so send Roy back with our blessing.”

Krishna has already been identified by Phoenix and All Whites Coach Ricki Herbert as a player of some talent, with the 20 year old invited to spend two weeks with the Phoenix to get a taste of life as a professional footballer.

Krishna will return to New Zealand in early September in plenty of time to prepare with his team mates for the NZFC, the O-League and the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan.
