The new Queenstown Lakes District exchange website is living proof that one person’s rubbish is another’s treasure, QLDC solid waste manager Stefan Borowy said.

The council has funded the new website www.recirculate.org.nz, which is operated on behalf of the council by Wanaka Wastebusters.

“It’s a terrific concept where people can go online and either request objects or give them away. There’s no charge and it’s easy to do,’ Mr Borowy said.

Already people had benefited from the exchange site with unwanted wood, netting, glass and more all finding new homes and new use.

“You’ve got all sorts of people there making requests from playschools to small business, anyone at all can list things on line,” Mr Borowy said.

He recommended people look around their properties or business and think about making material available to others for their use

“There’s a home for everything, I recommend people put the website address in their favourites and take a regular look at the site, they may be surprised by what they can find or how they may be able to help others,” he said.
