The Town Centre Refurbishment project is now approaching Barraud St. Tararua District Council and main Contractor Infracon advise that during the refurbishment work at Barraud St the High St entry and exit will be closed to all vehicle traffic. This is to give contract staff sufficient area to safely complete their work. Infracon has given 1 August 2008 as the likely date of this temporary closure.

The project plan is for the length of Barraud St to Denmark St to become ‘one way only’ with High St traffic able to enter from the north only, as at present. No traffic will be able to exit onto High St. Traffic from the service lanes or from the New World Supermarket carpark will be directed east to exit at Denmark St. There will be no entry for traffic into Barraud St from Denmark St.

The District Council also wishes to advise of the impending demolition of the Barraud St Centre located at the corner of Barraud and Denmark streets. This work is expected to occur during the next few months. The building, owned by Foodstuffs (NZ) Ltd, is to be cleared to make way for an expanded New World Supermarket carpark. The Public Toilets are to remain. The Bus Stop currently located there will move to its new position adjacent to the Salvation Army Hall on High St and the public toilets beside the Town Hall carpark
