Johnson & Johnson has today announced its sponsorship of World Cup triathlon winner Debbie Tanner – a medal hopeful for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games to be held next month.

Tanner is a Compeed* sponsored athlete – a brand in the Johnson & Johnson stable that provides technologically innovative solutions to blisters, calluses and cold sores.

The advanced hydrocolloid technology utilised by Compeed is highly effective for treating and healing blisters – a problem commonly suffered by athletes.

Johnson & Johnson’s NZ Managing Director Craig Towers says the company is delighted to sponsor Tanner.

“As an organisation committed to improving the performance of athletes in their respective sporting fields, Johnson & Johnson is proud to be supporting Debbie in her quest for Olympic victory,” he says.

Tanner says she is thrilled to be sponsored by Johnson & Johnson and says the Compeed products give her the extra edge when it comes to taking care of her blisters before, during and after her Olympic performance.

“As an athlete, I’m no stranger to blisters, and I’m grateful to add Compeed® Blister Patches to my Olympic training programme. They fit like a second skin and allow me to get on with attaining my goals. You could call Compeed my ‘not so secret weapon’!”

Health Team Leader for the NZ Olympic Team, Dr Lynne Coleman, says it’s great to see a company such as Johnson & Johnson supporting NZ athletes, Debbie’s intensive training and active lifestyle make Compeed an ideal sponsor for her. “Blisters are a significant problem for athletes. It is essential that they commence the treatment and healing process for blisters so they can perform to their maximum potential without blisters and associated pain,” says Dr Coleman.
