Talented prospect Tom David (Auckland) has finished seventh in the time trial in testing conditions at the UCI Junior World Championships in Mexico today.

David clocked a highly creditable 37min 3.2s for the testing 44km time trial, made tougher with a stiff head wind, a 3km climb from the start and rolling course.

Poland’s Michal Kwiatkowski won the gold medal, upsetting hot favourite and defending champion Taylor Phinney (USA) who finished third.

Central Otago’s Alex McGregor finished 22nd.

Te Awamutu’s Emma Petersen placed 22nd in the women’s race over 14.1km, finishing two minutes down on winner Maria Petersen (Denmark).
