After four weeks of public feedback the Franklin District Council (Contribution To Funding Of Museums) Amendment Bill has been lodged by Council with the Office of the Clerk of Parliament. This is the first Bill, in recent times, which Franklin District Council has promoted to Central Government.

“We believe it is Council’s role to advocate for our residents, especially when Waikato residents are being unfairly charged for assets outside their region. This process has taken us all the way to Parliament,” says Franklin District Council Mayor, Mark Ball.

Now the Bill has been lodged, local Member of Parliament, Paul Hutchison, will take charge of the Bill. It will be printed and introduced to the House of Representatives after which it will have its first reading.

“We hope that the Bill will have its first reading and proceed to the Local Government and Environment Select Committee before the national elections. It is in the Select Committee where the public gets the chance to make their voices heard,” says Mayor Ball.

Franklin District Council received feedback on the Bill from a variety of groups during the last four weeks including Federated Farmers, other local Auckland councils, the museums involved and the public. Franklin District Council continues to promote the Bill.
