The Mercury Bay Multi-Sports Complex moved a step forward today with Thames-Coromandel District Council resolving that the Chief Executive appoint a Project Manager to scope, stage and cost the project.

This will occur after consultation with the various local community boards and community groups across the district so that a final business case can be put forward.

Today’s council resolution comes a month after the Mercury Bay Community Board passed a resolution unanimously recommending the Moewai Road (Sherriff) land of 23 hectares be put forward as the preferred option and that a Project Manager be appointed.

Funding is already in place for the design and process work and future funding will be sought after the business case is finalised. The design and process is expected to take up to 12 months to complete.

“The process to this stage has taken many years of discussion and consultation and the Board Members and the residents of Mercury Bay will be looking forward to seeing this project progress,” said Mercury Bay Community Board chair Murray McLean
