Next stage starts on crown range
Work has resumed on the upgrade of the Crown Range Road, Queenstown Lakes District Council roading manager Ian Marshall said.
“We have started work on two 100 metre-long sections either side of the Royal Burn stream,” Mr Marshall said.
The work would involve removing the existing seal and building the road levels.
“That will mean from Monday that the road will be reduced to one lane traffic and short delays will be encountered. I would recommend people add five minutes to their travel time,” Mr Marshall said.
Once the two Royal Burn sections are completed they would remain unsealed while work commenced from the Eastbourne Gates end.
“Eventually we will have around 3.6 kilometres of unsealed road, prior to sealing the entire section in the next 2-3 months. Obviously people will need to drive with care and plan for a slightly slower journey over that section of the road,’ Mr Marshall said.
For safety reasons, traffic was asked to abide by the temporary speed limits.
“There are still issues with vehicles that are speeding through work areas. This is putting the safety of our contractors at risk,” Mr Marshall said.
