Council working to clear road after major slip
Manukau City Council contractors are working to clear a slip which has caused major damage to Redoubt Road.
One lane of the road is closed, and motorists need to take care in the area, Director Economic, Rick Walden says.
“The road has dropped about a metre, which will take our contractors considerable time to repair.”
Traffic management measures are in place, and the damage is being assessed now, he says.
The slip has also taken out around 100 metres of water pipe, cutting water off to around 3000 homes. Manukau Water Limited is carrying out these repairs and will provide further updates.
Meanwhile, the Turei Hill slip at Kawakawa Bay is still being monitored for any further movement. Geotech engineers, geologists and council staff met at the site this morning to further assess that slip, Mr Walden says.
“We have additional road signage in place as well as traffic management measures. Again, we urge motorists and residents to take care when travelling through this area and to watch their speed.”
