Onewhero-Tuakau Bridge Road (known locally as Punt Hill) was closed between 31 July and 11 August due to land under the road moving, cracking the road. This occurred because of the heavy rain during that period.

The road reopened on 11 August with a 30kph speed limit in place while repairs took place. The current situation is as follows:

  • Drainage has been installed under the road to stabilise it. It is hoped this will protect the road from any similar occurrence in the future
  • The road has been repaired but not sealed
  • The road remains loose metal at present and will be sealed when better weather allows it
  • A temporary speed limit will remain in place until final sealing.
