HASTINGS

The new Keep Hastings Beautiful Trust mascot flew into town today.

The Clean-Up Fairy visited Camberley School this morning to help students pick up litter as part of an awareness campaign around Keep Hastings Beautiful Month.

The trust is running the awareness month, during September, on the back of Keep New Zealand Beautiful Week, September 5-12.

Speaking on behalf of the Clean-Up Fairy, Hastings District Council environmental enhancement officer, Jacqui Barnes, says the Clean-Up Fairy will be sprinkling her magic around Hastings in an effort to get everyone to work together to have their neighbourhoods sparkling.

“While the Clean-Up Fairy’s primary purpose will be to visit schools to deliver the ‘No Litter, No Graffiti, Keep Hastings Beautiful’ message,we can also expect to see her pop up at events like the upcoming Blossom Parade to remind us to do our part for a cleaner Hastings,” Jacqui says.

“The Clean-Up Fairy will be spending plenty of time with children to get them to understand how important it is to put their litter in the bin and take care of where they live.”

The lead up to the National Keep New Zealand Beautiful Clean Up and Graffiti Free Week is an ideal time to introduce the Clean-Up Fairy - and she is now a permanent resident of Hastings.”

The Clean-Up Fairy will be available for photos while picking up litter with Camberley School students at Camberley’s Kirkpatrick Park, Orchard Road, between 9.40-10am, on Wednesday, September 3.
