Hastings District Council wants to let Hawke’s Bay residents know how the Regional Sports Park is progressing and is calling on questions from the public ahead of a public meeting on the facility.

In line with Council’s resolution to keep the public informed on the park’s progress the first public meeting on the Regional Sports Park will be held in the Council Chamber on Monday, September 29, starting at 5.30pm.

People wanting to attend can submit their written questions to council via email or post by Friday, September 19.

The latest milestone for the park is Hastings District Council accepting commissioner recommendations that the council change its district plan.

These changes would allow the development to proceed, with the re-zoning of the Percival Road area and for Percival Road itself to be extended to meet Lyndhurst Road.

The existing plan did allow the council to lay the all-weather athletics track, but it needed to be broadened to allow large buildings to be constructed on the site.

The all-weather track is now up and running and bookings for clubs, schools and community groups to use the park over summer are now open.

The surrounding area has been landscaped, grassed and planted.

The next major construction will be the grandstand overlooking the track and that is planned to begin later this year for completion in 2009.

Hastings District Council regularly updates Regional Sports Park information on its website www.hastingsdc.govt.nz .
