Cameron Brown has rounded out his European build up for the Hawaiin Ironman with a comprehensive victory at the Auch International Triathlon this morning NZT.

The New Zealander enjoyed a solid race with a good show of speed as he prepares to leave for the USA to put the finishing touches on his Kona preparation.

Brown describes another solid ‘day at the office’ as he looks at the big prize at Kona.

“I enjoyed a solid swim, exiting the water one minute down on fellow Kiwi Lee Greer and then rode very well to lead off the bike by four minutes. The bike was very challenging with some good hills. I have changed my training around a little of late with Brendon Cameron setting me some very hard programmes for my bike training; this seems to be working very well.

“The run went well straight from the start and I comfortably won by just under four minutes. I’m very happy how the preparation is going for Hawaii and head away soon to train in Austin Texas in similar temperatures to Kona.”

It was a good day all round for the Kiwis, with Greer (Wangarei) showing that all his work pre Beijing with Sam Warriner has paid dividends with a third place finish and Brown’s training partner Scott Thorne finishing fifth.

FERGUSON AND BOZZONE SECOND IN SINGAPORE

It was a double dose of runner up for Kiwi triathletes Gina Ferguson and Terenzo Bozzone at the Singapore 70.3 triathlon.

Ferguson was pleased to race so strongly, given she had been crook heading into the race.

“I am more than happy to finish second behind Rebekkah Keat from Australia – that is given I came into the race with a sinus bug and cough. I found the race very difficult on the swim and the run with my breathing so yes, I am very happy with my result.

“I was going very well on the bike at one stage enjoyed a five minute lead but just 6km or so from the end I got a puncture. This cost me that time and some more, meaning I ended the bike leg a couple of minutes down in 4th position. Onto the run I was unable to go faster than my ‘Ironman speed’ as it was hard to breathe but managed to run my way into 2nd position.

“I have been training in Australia for the past month, mainly in Cairns, so that has helped in my preparation for this race and hopefully also for Hawaii. For now I hope to get better soon and then next up for me is Hawaii Ironman which is very exciting.”
