To celebrate Conservation Week Angeline Greensill, the Maori Party candidate for HaurakiWaikato has told members, friends and whanau to consider taking a walk around their local community to learn more about the habitat they share with natue.

"The theme for this year’s Conservation Week is ‘Meet the Locals’ and I am encouraging everyone in Hamilton, South Auckland, Ngaruawahia, Huntly, Raglan, Hauraki, Kawhia, Te Awamutu, Paeroa, Kihikihi, Te Aroha – everywhere in our beautiful electorate, to walk and talk and look at the environment we share together."

"It is inspiring to learn of school children planting new trees and shrubs, to hear that local businesses are encouraging their staff to recycle and the social push for green, clean technologies" says Mrs. Greensill.
"At the same time, many in the community are dismayed that the West Coast is being targeted by wind farm developers and that the East Coast is beng touted as the playground for the rich."

Mrs. Greensill maintains that "there has been very little public consultation in both areas which puts the local people at risk and while I support alternative energy, this should not be done at the expense of these unique communities".

"The current Government take for granted the many children and their whanau who plant food to support sustainable living, who assist with replanting sanddunes. The Maori Party wants to encourage more natureinspired actions that keep the connection strong between communities and their environment."

Mrs. Greensill then asked "He aha te mea nui? What is important to me?" And a clear response to that is "our environment!"
