TAUPO

A collaboration of local, regional and national agencies has pulled together a programme to insulate older homes in Taupo.

Residents in the Taupo Urban Area that own a house built prior to 1978 and are eligible to hold a community services card, may be able to get their homes insulated free of charge.

Residents can be referred to this service by their GP or can ring Energy Options on the free calling number 0800 151565 to find out if they are eligible for this service.

Recent New Zealand-based research has found that older housing throughout the country including Taupo, is often cold, insufficiently insulated and inadequately heated. Studies show that poorly insulated homes can contribute to poor health. The retrofitting of insulation project will help to address some of these issues for Taupo families.

Agencies supporting the programme include Lakes District Health Board, Lake Taupo PHO, EECA, Taupo District Council, Toi te Ora Public Health, Environment Waikato, NZ Federation of Family Budgeting Services, Office for Senior Citizens, Te Nohanga Kotahitanga o Tuwharetoa Governance Board, Housing NZ Corporation & Energy Options.
