The intense supremacy battle between Holden and Ford V8 supporters has been amped up today with the announcement of LG Electronics as major sponsor of star Kiwi driver Angus Fogg’s new racing team.

Fogg revealed the much-speculated partnership at LG Electronics’ stand at the Auckland Home Show this morning, and also named his new racing team to mount a major challenge on the New Zealand V8 Championship for the 2008-2009 season. Fogg has broken away from International Motorsport, but continues to retain most of his key support crew from his last four seasons, and will lead the team as Chief Engineer. The team will utilise Kevin Williams’ franchise for the championship.

Fogg also unveiled the team’s new-look Ford Falcon to a wowed crowd; the Falcon was built by Fogg at International Motorsport and is the same car he started the 2007-2008 season in. Williams now owns the car but the engine is Fogg’s centrepiece, which he has rebuilt and updated for the season. Williams has opted out of this season due to heavy business commitments.

Fogg’s support sponsors include Metalman, Strapping Systems, Brenics Transport and Affordable PartsWorld, with more to be announced at the Championship’s opening round.

Foggy, as fans fondly refer to him, is one of New Zealand’s most experienced drivers, priding a successful, twenty-year racing career. His love of V8s goes well beyond the track and he works full-time building and preparing race cars. His favourite race track in New Zealand is Taupo, where the first round of the V8 Championship will be staged on 3-5 October. Fogg says “This championship is New Zealand’s premier racing series and we’re stoked that motorsport has enjoyed such a huge increase in support and attention. My team and I are overjoyed to have the sponsorship throughout this championship of such an innovative and monumental brand - LG Electronics is exactly the type of visionary sponsor we were looking for to help us lead this challenge effectively.”

The New Zealand V8 Championship is greatly fortified by the rivalry between Holden and Ford in a ‘no-holds-barred’ battle for brand and driver supremacy. Fogg is thrilled to throw his hat into this campaign, and crowd anticipation will surely go to new altitudes.
