Outdoor Festival Bursting with Things to Do
Wellington City Council has come up with a great way to get Wellingtonians exercising their way into summer with the first ever Push Play Outdoor Festival.
Not only will you be able to try snorkelling or scuba diving, but you could take your family on a night hike through the bush, learn basic mountain-biking skills, walk Makara Peak, try out orienteering or have a go at rock climbing and abseiling.
The Council's Sport and Recreation Portfolio Leader, Councillor John Morrison, says the festival is a great idea and a brilliant way to get people to try out new things.
"I could only wish that festivals like this took place in the city when I was a lad," says Cr Morrison. "I would have stuck with cricket all the same, but it would have been nice to have tried out lots of other activities too. Still, I look forward to having a go at scuba diving and perhaps testing my head for heights with abseiling."
The majority of the festival's activities are free – walks, Push Play days, rock climbing and ultimate frisbee. Others, such as sailing, scuba diving and snorkelling have drastically reduced discounts. Activities start from 1 October and go right through to 8 November.
Festival brochures are now available from Feeling Great stands throughout the city, Wellington City libraries, swimming pools, recreation centres, and from cafés throughout the central city. You can also download the programme from the Feeling Great website.
