Water supply restored at Okaihau
Water supplies to 158 properties at Okaihau were restored last night after an extensive search for an elusive leak which left the town without a mains water supply for more than 24 hours.
The leak was repaired late yesterday afternoon and a water tanker was linked to the mains to provide temporary relief to households in the community at about 5.30 p.m. By 7 p.m. the normal mains supply had been restored.
This morning the reservoir servicing the town was slowly recovering. However Water, Wastewater and Refuse Manager Peter Johnson has urged local residents to conserve water to allow the reservoir to fill.
"Once reservoir levels have increased it will be business as usual but in the meantime we are seeking the co-operation of the public to keep water use down as much as possible to speed up the recovery process," he said.
