Capital Set for Drawing Extravaganza
This Saturday (20.09.08) people are invited to get their creative juices flowing for an interactive event called Draw Wellington which takes place at four significant public spaces around the city.
Organised by local architects Fiona Christeller and Judi Keith-Brown with support from the Victoria University School of Architecture and Wellington City Council, Draw Wellington is designed to encourage people to take an interest in our city's built-environment and draw attention to the way in which our buildings interact with their surroundings.
The event, which is in its fourth year, will be hosted by around 180 of our local architecture students who have prepared black building paper surfaces to draw on with white chalk. The students will kick-off proceedings by sketching a framework of the buildings and surroundings.
Members of the public from all backgrounds and ages will then be encouraged to participate in drawing to help reveal the character of different parts of the city and the detailed elements which make them special.
It is expected that more than 1,000 people will take part and, following the event, the drawings will be exhibited at the Victoria University School of Architecture.
Draw Wellington is taking place between 11.00am and 1.30pm this Saturday at four locations: Cuba Mall, Allen and Blair streets, Courtenay Place and Woodward Street. All drawing materials will be provided.
