Okaihau residents asked to assist
Okaihau residents are being asked to continue to be cautious with the use of water for the next few days to enable the reservoir supplying the township to refill.
Water & Wastewater Operations Manager James Brooks said today the reservoir was now 40% full and slowly recovering following leaks in the reticulation system which left the community without a water supply earlier this week.
"A second break was located and repaired late Monday, but we still have concerns that the reservoir is not refilling as fast as would normally be expected.
"If people could continue to be careful with their use of water for a few more days the reservoir should fully recover and it will be back to business as usual," he said.
Mr Brooks said the council was also concerned that there may still be small, undetected leaks in the system.
"We are also asking the community to keep a watch for any signs of leaks, dripping taps or leaking valves and report anything amiss. These smaller leaks are not always easy to detect on inspection, and the community can help by bringing these to our attention," he said.
Reports of leaks should be made to the council on 0800 920 029.
