Schedule of events for Push Play month Manawatu
Sport Manawatu Workplace Challenge
Runs 29 September - 7 November
Manawatu, Horowhenua and Tararua businesses
Over 200 teams from workplaces across the regions have registered to take part in the challenge which asks them to record the amount of physical activity (in minutes) their team completes in a week. The aim is to be named the “Most Active Workplace” in the region. Plus there are heaps of spot prizes to be had along the way and other discounts at participating organisations such as CLM Gym.
Results are tallied weekly and the leading businesses can be viewed at www.sportmanawatu.org.nz
Kung Fu demonstrations
Date: During the week of October 5 – 11
Location: Palmerston North City
The Kung Fu School Nam Pai Chuan will be holding live demonstrations at public places in Palmerston North as well as giving out passes for free trial sessions. The club won an Excellence Award in the Volunteer Management category at the 2008 Sports Clubs of the Year Awards run by Sport Manawatu.
Kung Fu Class

Time: 7pm – 9pm
Location: Kung Fu School Nam Pai Chuan, 216 – 218 Ferguson St, Palmerston North
More FM DJ Mike West will be learning Kung Fu in preparation for this fight with fellow DJ AJ Funnell. The DJ’s training will culminate in a sumo wrestle on Push Play day (7th November).
Kickboxing Class
Date: Monday October 6
Time: 5.30pm – 6.30pm
Location: The Fight Shop, Human Movements Fitness Centre, Cook Street, Palmerston North
AJ Funnell from More FM will be learning kickboxing as he trains for his fight with Mike West, the public is welcome to come along and try out kickboxing.
Koputaroa Half Marathon
Date: Sunday October 19
Location: Koputaroa – North of Levin.
This year the Levin Harriers and Multisport Club celebrate the 25th Koputaroa Half Marathon... There is a 5 km and 10km fun run/walk option so everyone can be involved.
Action Indoor Sports Activities Night
Date: Saturday October 18
Location: Action Indoor Sports, 491 Tremaine Ave, Palmerston North
A chance to try indoor football, netball and volleyball at a discounted rate. (Teams of six people required).
Manawatu Triathlon Club Duathlon/Multisport Event
Date: Sunday October 19
Location: Centennial Lagoon, Palmerston North
The first Manawatu Triathlon Club event for the season. There will be short and long courses for both the duathlon (cycling and running), or multisport (cycling, running and kayaking) options. Those who are keen to try the event but don’t have a kayak, can organise to borrow one for free on the day of the event. There are even sessions prior to the event for people to learn/train for kayaking free of charge. For more information visit www.triclub.co.nz
Canteen Challenge in the Square, Palmerston North
Date: Tuesday October 21
Location: The Square, Palmerston North
Formerly known as the Rat Race, Canteen has re-ignited this race which features activities such as hospital bed relays and tug of war.
Push Play Truck
Date: Saturday October 25
Location: The Square, Palmerston North
A truck with dancers will be around The Square, promoting being active and the fun you can have Pushing Play.
Opening of the Foxton Pool and Kids Biathlon.
Date Saturday November 1
Location: Foxton Pool and Easton Park, Main Street, Foxton
An event for families to celebrate the opening of the pool and being active. Kids can participate in a Biathlon and there will be lots of spot prizes up for grabs.
Action Indoor Sports Activities Night
Date: Saturday November 1
Location: Action Indoor Sports, 491 Tremaine Ave, Palmerston North
A chance to try indoor football, netball and volleyball, and challenge other teams (teams of six people required).
Tour de Manawatu
Date: Sunday November 2
Location: Palmerston North and Manawatu District
A great cycling event for both competitive riders and those just wanting a personal challenge.
A Night with the Stars – Night Walk
Date: Tuesday November 4
Location: Start/Finish at the Hockey Manawatu carpark, Manawaroa St, Palmerston North
An evening walk/run as part of the Manawatu Striders weekly club walks, suitable for all fitness levels.
Push Play Day
Date: Friday November 7
