There’s still time for the community to have its say on future residual and organic waste services, said Queenstown Lakes District Council utilities committee chairperson, John Mann.

The Operation Zero Waste campaign started in late September with a brochure outlining a range of options for future residual and organic waste collection services being distributed to all residents and ratepayers.

“So far we are really pleased with the response. Around 300 submissions have been received with some really constructive feedback. We are particularly pleased to hear how many households are actively recycling,” Mr Mann said.

A large majority of the feedback had come from people living in Wanaka.

“We would like to urge the Queenstown and smaller communities to get informed about the proposals and make sure they have a say,” Mr Mann said. “Waste services affect everyone living in this district, it’s important for the whole community to be involved in this process.”

The proposals and a feedback form are available on the council website www.qldc.govt.nz  or from council offices district wide. Comments close on Friday, October 24, 2008.
