TAUPO

October is “Safekids Month”, a nationwide campaign run by Safekids New Zealand. To commemorate, the Taupo Safekids Coalition are helping the community to make a difference to children’s safety – in particular, when walking, cycling and using child restraints.

The Coalition is assisting with “Walk to School” programmes for Hilltop, Tauhara, St Patrick’s, Wairakei, Turangi and Mangakino Schools; running child restraint checking clinics at preschools; and assisting police with roadside child restraint checkpoints.

In addition, Ruben the Road Safety Bear is in Taupo District this week visiting schools and preschools spreading his road safety messages:

Pedestrian safety – stop, look, listen
Restraints – seat yourself right and buckle in tight
General road safety awareness – watch out for sneaky driveways; put your helmet on right and tight; be bright, dress bright.

For more information on the Taupo Safekids Coalition programmes, please phone Christine Hutchison at Taupo District Council on 376 0899.
