Manukau Festival of arts comes to Howick
There’s something for everyone in Howick during the opening weekend of the Manukau Festival of Arts.
For those who want to immerse themselves in art, garden and sculpture or for those who want to dance to a different tune, Howick is the place to be.
The events organised by the Howick Village Assocation will begin with a unique weekend experience with artists giving art-making demonstrations in shops and galleries throughout Howick village – painting, weaving, hot glass, book binding, and that’s just the beginning. Works will be available for sale at Uxbridge Creative Centre and at Monterey Art Gallery.
There will also be a garden trail visiting private home gardens - garden enthusiasts will be inspired by those who have the dedication to create ‘artworks’ in their own backyards.
A unique opportunity will also be available to view a fantastic sculpture exhibition of emerging and established New Zealand artists including Fatu Feu’u at the old police station site and at the Howick information centre.
For those wanting to dance to a different tune come along and hear the South American sounds of Gerardo Torres, bandleader of Matecito in their Explosion Latina concert. You can enjoy the Latin flavours of dance, drink and food at the Uxbridge Creative Centre and have an exhilarating night out in the company of the Latin community.
Ongoing exhibitions at Te Tuhi Centre for the Arts in Pakuranga complement the weekend activities. Auckland artist Ruth Watson has an enthralling solo show alongside more provocative video work by Polish artist Artur Zmijewski.
