Council advises caution around drainage works at Moeraki
The public are being asked to stay clear of an area located on the seaward side of Haven Street in Moeraki while work to drain water from the site is completed.
The works stretch for approximately 75 metres east from David Street. Council roading engineer, Hugh Francklin, advised that the water at the site is stagnant and has “a bit of an odour”, and strongly advises people to stay away.
“We are erecting signs asking that people keep clear of the works.”
Mr Francklin said the work has been recommended by a geotechnical specialist to help prevent further ground movement and slipping in the Haven Street area.
“The natural water course that runs through the area has been deepened by our contractors to allow ongoing drainage. Once the area at the base of the embankment below the road has been drained, it will be filled with soil and rock to prevent further instability.”
The work is expected to be completed over the next few months. Council thanks everyone for their cooperation over this time.
