Cameron Brown to compete in Rotorua National Triathlon Series race
Just a few weeks after taking out the Port of Tauranga Half Ironman [6 January 2007], kiwi multisport star Cameron Brown will take to the start line this Sunday [28 January 2007] at the National Triathlon Series’ fifth event in Rotorua.
Five-time New Zealand Ironman champion Brown [34], will compete in the Contact Energy New Zealand Cup race, part of the Bike Vegas Blue Lake Multisport Festival.
The race, for medium to advanced level athletes, comprises a 1.5 kilometre swim at Blue Lake, a 40 kilometre bike, and an 11 kilometre forest run leg.
Brown said he’s looking forward to what he thinks will be a tough race in the beautiful surroundings on Blue Lake.
“It will be a great build up race to Ironman New Zealand in Taupo on 3 March, which I’m currently training hard for,†Brown said.
“The National Series is great for the young guys involved in the sport and has been needed for a long time.â€Â
Triathlon New Zealand Chief Executive Officer, Dave Beeche, said it’s great to have one of the nation’s top athletes competing in the inaugural series.
“As well as supporting our up-and-coming athletes, the National Series aims to get more people involved in the sport of triathlon at all levels,†Dave said.
“Competing alongside athletes like Brown will be a great thrill for newcomers to the sport.â€Â
