The 2007/08 Annual Report was adopted at the Taupo District Council meeting on Tuesday (28th October) with unqualified support from the auditors.

The Annual Report, which reports on the progress made by Council in achieving the actions, activities and finances outlined in the previous year’s Annual Plan, is required to undergo a thorough auditing process to ensure the reporting is accurate, open and transparent.

Taupo District Council has received an unqualified opinion from the auditors which means that they have no concerns about the quality of the reporting and are happy for the report to be adopted by Council.

Taupo District Council CEO Rob Williams is pleased with the outcome. “The many achievements recognised in the report are gratifying and we can be very happy with the results achieved over the past twelve months. The Annual Report is our key reporting document and clearly shows we are on-track with the majority of our capital works and projects.”

Mr Williams cited the progress made on the East Taupo Arterial (ETA) as one of the year’s highlights as well as the purchase of land on View Road for the disposal of wastewater. The View Road land regains the disposal field capacity lost from land which had been required for the ETA.

He said, “I must also recognise the work that went into Taupo District Council being one of the first in the country to achieve accreditation as a Building Consent Authority; and of course the fantastic upgrades to the Taupo and Turangi libraries which have transformed these two facilities into modern spacious areas for the public to enjoy,” he said. “These are just a few key achievements that spring to mind but there are many more I could mention. Council is certainly working through its ‘to do’ list.”

Copies of the Annual Report will be available from all Council offices and libraries by the end of November or by visiting www.taupo.govt.nz Council also produces an Annual Report Summary which is more concise and reader-friendly.
