Franklin’s outdoor pools are due to open their doors for the summer season on Monday 17 November. A winter of work means that the pools are ready to open on time and should be problem free throughout the summer.

“Last year, the Waiuku outdoor pool opening was delayed when we realised we had a major electrical issue to sort out in early spring. So this year - almost as soon as the doors closed for winter - we started investigating what work was needed to make sure the pools were ready to go on 17 November,” says Franklin District Council’s Property Manager, Gwyn De Arth.
Franklin District Council discovered that electrical work, similar to what was needed in Waiuku, was needed at the Pukekohe and Tuakau outdoor pools. This work has occurred along with a range of other maintenance and improvements including:

Pukekohe:

Uneven pavers and broken tiles around the edge of the pool have been replaced. This makes the pool edge much safer

Waiuku:

Landscaping improvements

Tuakau:

A new pump has been installed
A new door has been put in for the chemical room
A leak in the pipework (which was causing the playground to get wet last year) has been found and fixed

Franklin District Council has instructed its contractor, CLM, to start pumping water through the pools so that they are totally fresh and ready to go on the 17th.
“We are looking forward to a great outdoor pool season,” says Gwyn.
