Michael Barnett, Auckland Chamber of Commerce CEO, is applauding Microsoft’s new initiative offering start up businesses free technology as an example of timely leadership.

Microsoft BizSpark will help accelerate the success of entrepreneurs by providing swift and easy access to leading Microsoft development tools and production licenses.

“Microsoft has removed a significant barrier for start up businesses,” says Barnett. “This initiative has set an example. In today’s economic environment, initiatives like this from the big players show great commitment to our shared economic future,” Barnett claims.

The programme is a global one, but Barnett points out that the benefits to the New Zealand business community will be significant.

“We’re a nation of thinkers and innovators. For us, the weightless economy is one we’re poised to expand without any limitation from size or distance. Technology allows global businesses to be run from our own backyards. Giving our local entrepreneurs a credible platform like Microsoft and cutting their overheads at the same time will be a great stimulus and support to the industry and its expansion.

Now is the time to concentrate on the consequences of strategies and policies. Microsoft is doing more than looking at how business vitality can be stimulated. It is taking action and walking the talk,” Barnett adds.
