DANNEVIRKE

As Dannevirke power company Scanpower prepares to market the former PPCS meat works as Oringi Business Park it is calling on its local council for support.

Scanpower purchased the building complex two months ago spotting an opportunity to regain revenue lost through the PPCS closure. The surrounding land has been sold separately.
The company stood to lose an estimated 15% of electricity to its network, chief executive Lee Bettles told Tararua councillors in an update at a services committee meeting.

Mr Bettles said the company expected to involve the council in the development.

In reply to a question on how the council could help, from Cr David Lee, Mr Bettles replied “by being business-friendly.”
By maximising Scanpower’s returns the district would benefit, he said.

Marketing proper on a national and international basis starts this week but the company was already approaching “suitable entities,” Mr Bettles said.

Scanpower was also encouraged to receive a number of unsolicited enquiries.

Mayor Maureen Reynolds welcomed the visit and the presentation saying that the council applauded Scanpower’s initiative.

Councillors were also the first to see the business prospectus, handed out by Property Brokers manager Kerry Sutherland.

It can be viewed on the Tararua District Council website.
