Event Strategy
The Queenstown Lakes District Council draft Events Strategy will be available for comment from tomorrow (Wednesday).
“This is a crucial document for our district. I would recommend that the entire community takes the time to understand the draft document and give feedback to the council,” Queenstown Lakes District Council arts and events facilitator Jan Maxwell said.
The strategy, which contained a funding proposal and eligibility criteria, would be available on the council website www.qldc.govt.nz or at a council office.
“We would like to offer the opportunity to have a further conversation with the community about what is being proposed so we have arranged some drop-in sessions specific to the strategy,” Mrs Maxwell said.
Drop-in sessions on the strategy would be held at Wanaka on 3 December from 3-5pm at the Lake Wanaka Centre and at Queenstown on 4 December from 3-5pm at the Queenstown Memorial Hall. The sessions were an informal chance to ask any questions and give the council feedback.
“The council needs to make sure it has hit the right balance between ensuring it gives the right level of encouragement to events - which in turn pay dividends in terms of economic and entertainment benefit - and the ratepayer, who is impacted by any funding commitment,” she said.
All comments on the strategy must be with the council by Friday, 3 February, 2009.
