A new Christmas Day bus service is ready to roll for the first time in Hamilton this year.

Environment Waikato, in consultation with operator Go Bus, has decided to run the Christmas service due to the popularity of recently introduced Sunday services.

“Given the demand we’re getting on Sundays, we believe there will definitely be solid Sunday-style demand for buses on Christmas Day,” said land transport operations manager Bevan Dale.

“We’re pleased to be offering people this Christmas service, which will run to the Sunday timetable. The feedback we’re getting is that seven days a week services in Hamilton, including public holidays, are helping a range of people live more independent and active lives.”

Mr Dale said only volunteer Go Bus drivers would be rostered on Christmas Day.

“Go Bus tell us they’ve had no shortage of volunteers wanting to work on Christmas Day,” Mr Dale said.
