Day two of the Gillette Cup saw the form books turned on their heads as two teams reversed big losses yesterday to notch up their first wins of the tournament.

After a nine wicket loss to Westlake yesterday, Wanganui Collegiate compiled the highest score of the tournament so far when they made 296 for 5 off their 50 overs against Tauranga Boys College, with Thomas Bruce and Finlay Scott top scoring with 80 each.

They then dismissed Tauranga for 228, securing a 68-run win.

Hamilton Boys High School bounced back from their nine wicket loss to Wellington College yesterday with a good four wicket win over Palmerston North Boys High School today.

After putting the locals into bat, Hamilton were able to dismiss them for just 134 in the 40th over with Scott Kuggeleijn the best of the bowlers with 3/23.

Hamilton needed just 35 overs to reach the total for the loss of six wickets to claim their first victory of the tournament.

Wellington College notched up their second win of the tournament with a comprehensive 71-run win over Otago Boys High School.

Bating first Wellington could only manage 186, but were able to dismiss Otago for just 115 in the 39th over.

Harry Wright once again starred for Wellington, making 33 with the bat and taking 3 wickets for 24 in the win.

It was a less than memorable day for Gillette Cup finals debutantes St Bede’s College from Christchurch who suffered the biggest loss of the day, going down by 8 wickets to Westlake.

St Bede’s were bundled out for just 78 runs in 38 overs, and Westlake lost just two wickets in chasing down the total, giving them their second win of the tournament.

Tomorrow (Saturday) on day three of the Gillette Cup St Bede’s take on Wanganui Collegiate, Tauranga Boys play Westlake, Wellington College is up against Palmerston North Boys High School and Otago Boys High School will clash with Hamilton Boys High School.
