Shelley Mcmeeken, Netball New Zealand Chief Executive Steps Down After Seven Years Of Exciting Growth
Netball New Zealand Chair Don Mackinnon announced today the NNZ Board had reluctantly accepted the resignation of Shelley McMeeken from her role as NNZ Chief Executive.

“Shelley joined us seven years ago just after the 1999 World Netball Championships. Under Shelley’s leadership, Netball New Zealand has prospered both on and off the court, achieving results that make it one of the most successful periods in the history of the sport.” Mackinnon said.

“On the court New Zealand now holds the World Championship title, the World Youth Cup title and the Commonwealth Games Gold. Netball membership numbers have continued to grow and the Netball brand is at an all time high,” he said.

Shelley has made a huge contribution leading the team of one of New Zealand’s premier sporting organisations. Her enormous energy, passion and commitment to excellence will be missed by us all.”

McMeeken said she was confident Netball was well positioned for the future with a clear strategy and vision for the sport at both a social and competition level.

“Netball - The Business, and Netball - The Game, has grown exponentially over the last seven years and I would like to extend my thanks to all those who have journeyed with us. I have been privileged to work with such a committed team of Board members, staff, volunteers, and athletes. It is because of this amazing support that Netball continues to excel both at a National and Community level,” she said.

McMeeken will complete her time with Netball New Zealand in mid-March after which she will start her new role as Director, Corporate Relations for The Edgeâ„¢

“Netball has been such a huge part of my life over the last seven years and will continue to be in many respects but I am keen to explore other options. I am excited about taking on the new role with The Edge™, it is great to have the opportunity to work for yet another dynamic organisation,” said McMeeken.

Mackinnon confirmed an executive search is being undertaken to ensure the best candidate to lead Netball New Zealand forward is identified.
