A sporting spectacular event for all the family is on its way.

New to the summer festival programme, the Summerdaze Challenge will take place at the Queenstown Recreation Ground on Sunday 25 January, with registration opening at 11am.

“If you are eight-years and over you can be part of a six person team and go ‘head to head’ on an inflatable obstacle course, battle it out on the dual lane bungy fun run, and heave your way to victory in a good old fashioned tug-o-war. It will be a lot of fun,” Queenstown Lakes District Council arts and events facilitator Jan Maxwell said.

Grab your colleagues, friends and family and form a team and bring a picnic lunch, plenty of energy and your best sporting tactics, she said.

Categories include corporate, open and family with an entry fee of $20 per team.

“We will wind-up with prize-giving at 4pm, a good time is guaranteed,” Mrs Maxwell said.
Registrations are now open by contacting Nicole Fairweather on 03 443 2700, by logging on to www.summerdaze.co.nz , or keeping an eye-out for entry forms around Queenstown.

Meanwhile other Summerdaze sporting events continue to roll out with the rugby highlight of the summer calendar, The Pub Charity Rugby Sevens, kicking-off at the Queenstown Recreation Ground on Saturday and Sunday.

Also coming up this weekend the Puzzling World Junior Challenge (junior triathlon) at Pembroke Park, Wanaka from 9am on Saturday and the following week in the build up to the International iron distance event - Challenge Wanaka on Saturday 17 January, starting 7am - the chance to swim the course on Wednesday 14 January at 7am and the Tri New Zealand Contact Tri Series on Friday 16 January from 2.30pm, where the public can watch Olympian greats such as Bevan Docherty in action.

For the equestrian-minded there is also the Wakatipu One Day Horse Trial on Sunday at Speargrass Flat from 8am and for the recreational trail motorbike riders, the Wanaka Ridge Ride on Glen Dene on 31 January.
