The Queenstown Lakes District Council is currently consulting over the proposed installation of 14 bus shelters on Frankton Road and at Fernhill and Arrowtown and the formalising (Traffic and Parking Bylaw 2006) of existing bus stops, QLDC transportation planning manager Denis Mander said.

“The Council recognises that the most economic and effective way to address the issue of transportation - particularly on routes like Frankton Road is through the greater use of public transport,” Mr Mander said.

The provision of the additional shelters was a major incentive to support a shift to the use of a bus service.
“This is also an opportunity to formalise those stops, both new and existing, which will help with issues like public safety,’ Mr Mander said.

Immediately-affected neighbours had already been consulted over the proposed stops, which were planned to be implemented in the first half of 2009.

“We would now like to flag the proposal to the wider community and receive feedback,” Mr Mander said.
A map depicting the location and possible style (similar to existing shelters) of the new shelters could be viewed at the council office on Gorge Road, Queenstown.

Feedback on the shelters and stops could be emailed to services@qldc.govt or mailed to Bus Shelters, QLDC, Private Bag 50072, Queenstown, 9348 by 30 January, 2009.
