A contract has been let to HEB Construction Ltd for the first stage of a project designed to widen and improve Waipapa Road over the next three years.

Work on the $1,408,962 contract for the 1.4 kilometre section of Waipapa Road from the Landing Road junction to Cochrane Road started on 12th January and is scheduled to be completed by mid May 2009.

The road widening project will include the provision of a separate footpath and widened sealed shoulders for safer cycling.

It is planned to complete the second and subsequent stages over the following two years, subject to the availability of funding.

The project has been given a high priority as a result of an increase in use since the introduction of the Kerikeri Heritage Bypass last year and in anticipation of increased traffic densities when the new Kerikeri Sports Complex comes into full use later this year.
