ASB pledges $100,000 to support victims of the Australian bushfires
On Monday this week, ASB opened a trust account to receive donations for the victims of the horrific bushfires in Victoria, Australia.
“Having received widespread support from both the New Zealand public and our own staff for making this account available, ASB has now pledged to donate $100,000 into this fund to help support the thousands of families who have been devastated by this unfathomable disaster,” says Charles Pink, Chief Executive of ASB.
ASB acknowledges that many people worldwide are finding the current economic environment challenging but, despite this, hundreds of New Zealanders have recognised the predicament many of our Australian neighbours have now found themselves in as a result of these fires is beyond comprehension, and they want to contribute what they can.
“The extent of the loss of life, and the level of damage and destruction that many Australian families are experiencing because of these fires is only just becoming evident now,” says Mr Pink. “We express our heartfelt sympathy to the communities affected by this tragic disaster and hope that ASB’s donation will encourage others in New Zealand to also give what small amount they can to assist in the support of the victims.”
The ASB account number for the Australian Bushfire Disaster Fund is 12-3205-0125281-00.
The funds donated into this account will go directly to the Victorian Premier’s Bushfire Relief Appeal.
Alternatively, New Zealanders may choose to donate through the Red Cross as ASB has in fact waived the usual merchant fees that would apply to these payments.
