Hastings District Council's first Community Forum for 2009 asks “Are you fit enough to get funding?”

The forum will be held on Friday, March 9, from 11.00am to 1.30pm in the Council Chamber, and will include presentations by Community Development & Funding Advisors from The Department of Internal Affairs and the Manager of Volunteering Hawke’s Bay, covering topics:

· “How healthy is your group? – A ‘Warrant of Fitness’ check
· Governance & Management – What are these?
· Financial Information – What is it and who needs it?
· Volunteers – Recruitment & retention
Organiser Mandy Kaye, a community development planner/advisor at the Council, says community forums provide a great opportunity for information sharing, networking and public discussion of community issues.

“This forum will provide very useful information for community groups and organisations,” says Ms Kaye.

Council’s Community Development Team organises regular Community Forums to provide information on a range of topics and services.

Although the forums are aimed at those involved in, or working with, community organisations and the not-for-profit sector, all members of the public are welcome to attend.

The format of the forum will consist of guest speakers giving their presentations, followed by refreshments and the opportunity for networking. Presenters will also be available to answer questions.

Those wishing to attend the forum should RSVP by Monday, March 2 to Maria Norrelle by email marian@hdc.govt.nz or phone 871 5000.
