Final numbers

Candidates have signalled a keen interest in standing for Tararua District Council with nine now contesting the by-election.

By yesterday’s (Monday) midday deadline Claudia Nicholson, Stephen Paewai and Hal Schmidt had added their names to the list of contenders for the Tararua North Ward vacancy.
They join Judy Babe, Wendy Baker, Brenda Dodunski, Rolly Ellis, Lyle Haste and James Kendrick.
Mayor Maureen Reynolds has welcomed the numbers and the interest.

“It is very pleasing to see that so many residents are prepared to take on the role of councillor in the Tararua district,” she said.

Voting papers will be forwarded between March 16-21 for a First Past the Post election on April 7.
